Laowa 7.5mm in Salzburg

Writing big news about the seven-and-a-half Laowa is probably no longer possible. The biggest problem with it is that at f/2 it requires focusing with magnification. If you do this, you will be rewarded with crisp images. If I had rejects, it was because I thought I could save myself the trouble. Short focal length, it’ll be about right. No.

And what else did I have more often: the lens hood got twisted and caused dark corners. Look through the viewfinder, look at the aperture, turn, everything is fine again.

The photo above is in the “Museum der Moderne.” Shooting without flash is allowed. “Slotmachine” by Ulrich Formann. A web crawler filters out all flights worldwide that fly “empty” and are only there to obtain take-off and landing slots for the airlines. It displays these flights on a large LED board. Which is pretty creepy.

And here is a staircase in the Museum der Moderne. ArtFilter PopArt, because of course the walls are not yellow….. The whole thing is also available as a reverse shot with ArtFilter Dramatic Effect II

The classics are, of course, churches. Here the Salzburg Cathedral.

For some reason – perhaps to save electricity – it’s quite dark at the moment. Aperture 2 is a fine in those situations. If you focus properly, you can also get all the ceiling paintings in focus. However, the next is not the cathedral, but the Kollegienkirche.

A baroque church that is mainly white. You take this photo when you’re standing right on the burn mark that Napoleon’s boys left behind when they started a fire here in the church.

The 7.5 isn’t quite as extreme as the 6mm, but it’s still wide enough to get some really wild perspectives. It’s also absolutely ok at f/2 at the edges – but you have to hold the camera steady. I had 1/6s here again and in two pictures the edges were indisputably bad in one and in the next picture immediately afterwards, same subject, same exposure time, the edges were perfect. Reports of blurred edges with the Laowa may be due to this.

Wenn ich wenig Platz habe und leicht unterwegs sein will ist diese “letzte ihrer Art” Kombi ideal…
