Rohrendorf is actually a wine tavern village. One winery next to the other and since Rohrendorf is actually a suburb of Krems, which calls itself a wine town, all tourists in Rohrendorf go to the Heurigen.
I was at Giovanni’s. Not a wine tavern. Even if it looks like a simple Italian restaurant, it’s actually a Greek one. Or, to be more precise, the landlord is actually from Cyprus. He has been running the pub for 25 years and is open every day except Monday. His bruschetta is sensational, with extra freshly baked bread, of course. And it takes time. The bread only goes into the oven once the order has been received.
As you can see, he’s not photo-shy and neither are his staff – but I can’t post all the pictures here.
I’m currently doing some research in Vienna, we’re working on a hot story and are trying to do some filming tomorrow. It’s not quite clear yet whether we’ll get permission or get into trouble, but we’ll find out tomorrow. I’m spending the night in Krems because I have a meeting there tomorrow.
Then out with the OM-1II in the evening to take night shots. And there I was, standing in front of the pub, undecided, when the boss comes out, hands me an espresso, pushes me to a table with two people from Rohrendorf, who then tell me half their life story and the history of the place, and then provides me with the bruschetta. And when he came out of the kitchen, he showed me the food he had just brought out. It was a shame that I was already full – and already on the road again on Tuesday.
Tip: Have a photographer’s meeting there and order a pizza by the metre. The piece is supposedly 1.20 metres in diameter and looks really cool. The gag is not so much the pizza – but when the boss throws the dough for this pizza. That makes for legendary photos…
By the way about the OM-1II and its autofocus….
There’s a second image – there’s nothing in focus at all. Actually, the camera should not have triggered the shutter. But it did. It’s difficult to like the camera, I’m getting more and more emails from people who despair about the AF. You have to be very forgiving.
The Starlight AF is set to “speed” by factory-default. This is impressive. But you should change it to “accuracy”. Sharp images are even more impressive….
In Rohrendorf wurde in den frühen 50ern die moderne Weinkultur erfunden (Lenz Moser Hochkultur). Davor ging das ganze ziemlich auf den Rücken 😉
Und ist in etwa 7km von meinem Landsitz entfernt…..

Wenn ich diese ganzen OM1,2 AF-Storys lese, bekomme ich irgendwie den Eindruck, dass die OM1,2 viel dringender ein Firmware-Update bräuchte als die OM1,1.
Das ist doch ein grundsätzliches Problem bei Olympus. Und ich darf das sagen, als alter Recke hatte ich fast alles seit der E-1.
Guck dir das Foto von Giovanni an. Gesicht verwaschen, das ganze Foto hat eine technoide, flaue Anmutung wie ein Handyfoto von 2012.
Das ist tendenziell typisch für MFT: Sobald etwas Dämmerung und dann noch künstliches Licht dazu kommt, sieht jede moderne KB-Systemkamera deutlich mehr Land.

Heiland – das erkennst Du an einem Bild, das gedreht und beschnitten und auf 1024 Pixel runterskaliert wurde? “Technoide, flaue Anmutung”? Gerade mal kurz bei DPreview Die Nikon Zf gekuckt (Weia, ist der AutoWB lausig.) Was findest Du daran deutlich besser?
Wurde bei dem unscharfen Foto vielleicht auf die Lichtquelle fokussiert? Ich habe jedenfalls schön öfters die Erfahrung gemacht, dass das auch zu unscharfen Bildern führen kann. Angefangen mit meiner E-M10 II, die beim Zielen auf flirrende Reflexe der Sonne auf Wellen regelmäßig falsch fokussiert, als auch kürzlich bei Aufnahmen mit der OM-1 auf nächtliche Lichter der Frankfurter Skyline. Ich stelle in solchen Fällen inzwischen lieber manuell mit Fokuslupe scharf. Vielleicht hängt es damit zusammen, dass unscharfe Ränder von nicht exakt fokussierten Lichtquellen einen Schärfungsrand bekommen, der dann kontrastreicher wirkt als der Lichtpunkt selbst, wenn er im Fokus ist.
Nein, nicht auf Lichtquelle fokussiert.
